James Cameron & Simcha Jacobovici Team on Search for Atlantis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CELEBRATED OSCAR WINNING FILMMAKER JAMES CAMERON AND EMMY AWARD-WINNING PRODUCER SIMCHA JACOBOVICI JOIN FORCES WITH NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL AND DISCOVERY CANADA FOR NEW CINEMATIC EXPEDITION, SEARCH FOR ATLANTIS

Produced by Toronto-based Associated Producers, the two-hour documentary special to premiere internationally this winter

(WASHINGTON, D.C. – JUNE 13, 2016) National Geographic Channel and Discovery Canada, along with production partners Associated Producers announced today that principal photography is underway on the James Cameron documentary, SEARCH FOR ATLANTIS. Principal photography is now underway on the two-hour special, on location in Sicily, Malta, Crete, Santorini and Sardinia, with underwater portions being shot off the coast of Spain. Executive produced by Cameron and produced by the Toronto-based Associated Producers, the film is helmed by three-time Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, Simcha Jacobovici.

“National Geographic is committed to bring the world of science, exploration and adventure to our viewers worldwide. We are excited to partner with Cameron and Jacobovici for the quest to find Atlantis, one of the magical worlds that has resonated in our collective imaginations for thousands of years,” said Tim Pastore, President of Original Programming and Production, National Geographic Channel.

In 2011, both National Geographic Channel and Discovery Canada partnered with Associated Producers on FINDING ATLANTIS.

“The first part of this investigation made for a particularly timely special, drawing a large viewing audience when we aired it in 2011,” said Ken MacDonald, General Manager and Vice-President, Discovery Networks Canada. “Discovery’s Canadian audiences are still just as intrigued by iconic mysteries, and this expanded investigation into the facts behind the myth in SEARCH FOR ATLANTIS more than fits the bill.”

“Finding the historical and archeological truth behind the Atlantis myth has always been a fascination of mine,” said Cameron. “Our exploration team will investigate several new theories about where the real Atlantis was, who these mysterious people were, and what disaster wiped them from the Earth over three millennia ago.”

SEARCH FOR ATLANTIS is produced by Associated Producers, in association with National Geographic Channel and Discovery Canada. Executive Producers are James Cameron and Yaron Niski. Producers are Simcha Jacobovici and Felix Golubev. For Discovery Canada, General Manager and Vice-President Ken MacDonald is Production Executive. For National Geographic Executive Producer is Matt Renner and Tim Pastore is President of Original Programming and Production.
