Was the lost city of “Atlantis” a real place? And if it was, can its ruins be found today? “Atlantis Rising” is Discovery Canada’s latest investigative, high-end special into the world of ancient history and archaeology. Directed by three-time Emmy-winning filmmaker, Simcha Jacobovici, this is his third collaboration with celebrated Oscar-winning producer/director James Cameron. Using the Greek philosopher Plato (4thcentury BC) as a guide…a virtual treasure map…they set out to identify “Atlantean” civilization while closing in on the lost city itself. The adventure ranges from Santorini, Malta, Sardinia
Director/Producer Simcha Jacobovici is the 2017 winner of the Gordon Sinclair Award, from the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.
In 2011, both Discovery Canada and National Geographic Channel partnered with Associated Producers on another documentary, FINDING ATLANTIS.
“The first part of this investigation made for a particularly timely special, drawing a large viewing audience when we aired it in 2011,” said Ken MacDonald, General Manager
“National Geographic is committed to bring the world of science, exploration and adventure to our viewers worldwide. We are excited to partner with Cameron and Jacobovici for the quest to find Atlantis, one of the magical worlds that has resonated in our collective imaginations for thousands of years,” said Tim Pastore, President of Original Programming and Production, National Geographic Channel.
“Finding the historical and archeological truth behind the Atlantis myth has always been a fascination of mine,” said Cameron. “Our exploration team will investigate several new theories about where the real Atlantis was, who these mysterious people were, and what disaster wiped them from the Earth over three millennia ago.”
ATLANTIS RISING is produced by Associated Producers, in association with Discovery Canada and National Geographic Channel. Executive Producers are James Cameron and Yaron Niski. Producers are Simcha Jacobovici and Felix Golubev. For Discovery Canada, General Manager and Vice-President Ken MacDonald
